Seomra a Dó ar Turas Scoile

14th Jul 2021

Seomra a Dó marked the end of the school year with a surprise tour to Bishopswood Forest and the Scout Centre.  We departed the school with great excitement at 10am when we took the bus trip to Bishopswood car park.   We set off on our walk from here.  We were lucky to have the company of Ms Ryan and Ms. Comerford on our trip and they helped us to identify lots of different plants, trees and insects on our woodland trail.  We managed to tick off almost all the trees on our identification key!

After our walk, we arrived at Scout Hall.  Here we took a break and enjoyed our lunch in the picnic area. After lunch we enjoyed learning about the old farm machinery on site. We saw an old plough, harvester, water trough and a cultivator, to name but a few!

We then headed for some fun and games in the playground and surrounding woodland area. We had great fun making forts, swinging on tyre swings, walking the rope bridge, crawling through the tunnel and exploring the woods. Many thanks to Charlie Sullivan for giving us permission to use the wonderful facilities at the Scout Centre.

On our walk back to the carpark, the children took great joy in spotting and naming the plants and trees learned earlier in the morning, returning to school with a great collection of leaves and flowers for our classroom nature table!

The tour concluded with one last pleasant surprise- a special delivery of ice-cream, supplied by Ms O Dwyer in school, which was greatly enjoyed by all on the picnic benches!

The tour was thoroughly enjoyed by all the children and teachers alike - a super adventure right on our doorstep in the beautiful Dundrum countryside. Bhí an-spórt againn!
