Sports Day 2022

8th Jul 2022

Following the disappointing postponement due to poor weather on Friday June 24th, the following Monday, June 27th, dawned bright and dry and the annual school Sports Day went ahead.  It was an exciting day full of colour and fun. The children lined out in their team colours to take part in the various races – running, potato and spoon and three-legged race.  This was followed by a tricky obstacle course where the children navigated under and over tape, hopped through tyres, crawled under nets and into tunnels, scaled the hay bales, hoped over hurdles and weaved in and out through a chicane – Ireland’s Fittest School here we come!!!  After all this effort, a welcome ice cream treat was delivered by members of KNSPA, kindly supplied by DJ Butler, Centra Dundrum.

After a much needed break came the long anticipated Tug of War where the pupils really gave their all. A special mention goes to our Junior Infants who showed great grit and determination throughout this activity.  The last activity ‘Hit the Teacher’ was really where the pupils came into their own – with the children aiming to hit the teachers photo to score points for their team. I think it was fair to say some teachers were easier targets than others.

Well done to the pupils in Mr Moran’s room for fulfilling their roles as Captains and Team Leaders so well, and keeping a kind and helpful eye on their younger team members.  They also designed wonderful posters to represent their team and these were on display on the field throughout the day.  The Blue team were victorious on the day, closely followed by the red team and then the yellow team, though it is true to say that all the pupils were winners on the day.  Many thanks to our entire staff for their work and contribution to this ‘all hands on deck’ day.
