December in Room 2

20th Dec 2019

December was jam packed with activity this year. The children learned all about Advent and we read our calendar helping us to prepare for the birth of Jesus. We discussed water safety and sent home colourful wristbands to remind us not to have an accident like poor ‘Micilín Muc’. We also had a break from Christmas with some acting, singing and drámaíocht about the ‘Three Little Pigs’. Bhí an spórt again le Cruibín, Pincín agus Rúbailín agus bhíomar ag séideadh mar an Mac Tíre. We also collated important data about our favourite toys, food and transport and learned how to represent this information in a block graph and a pictogram. We really enjoyed working on the new suite of laptops and extending our skills at typing our names, opening and closing applications and shutting down the laptop correctly.

The classroom became an Elf Workshop as we constructed robots and a science lab where we learned how the force of heat could power a Christmas decoration. Christmas learning was also abounding between Christmas stories composed and retold in pairs, learning carols from around the world ‘Oíche Chiúin’, ‘Stille Nacht’ and ‘Vive le Vent’; and learning how to say Christmas greetings in different languages such as Vietnamese, Indonesian and French.

We cannot leave out the wonderful learning and fun that we shared preparing for and performing our ‘Christmas Extravaganza’ which celebrated the joy of Christmas in song poetry and rhymes about Santa, snowmen and excited children and reminded ourselves of the true message of peace and love that Jesus brought through such a humble birth in a stable.

Wishing you all a wonderful holiday and hoping we all return fit and sniffle free in January. Nollag Shona dhiaibh go léir.
