Scoil Mhuire marks the retirement of Ms Eleanor O' Dwyer

30th Jun 2022

With Covid restrictions still in place last June we were unable to join with pupils, current staff, past and retired staff, family members and invited guests to celebrate the retirement of Ms Eleanor O’ Dwyer. A special school event took place on Wednesday, June 22nd, where we had the pleasure of celebrating the contribution which Ms O’ Dwyer made to Knockavilla National School during her 15 years here as Principal.  There were readings and prayers and the pupils sang beautiful hymns and old Irish songs, much to the delight of all present.  A rousing rendition of Óró the Rathlin Bog really brought the house down.  A presentation of a painting by Cork artist Fiona Turley was made to Ms O’ Dwyer on behalf of the pupils and families of the school community by Shiva Thapa and Ruby Horgan.  A framed aerial photograph of the school with the pupils and staff spelling out the word Slán in the foreground was also presented by members of the Flynn family and we thank Vincent Flynn for his work in capturing this very special commemorative piece.  It was a lovely occasion and much enjoyed by all present.
