Scoil Mhuire Knockavilla / Knockavilla National School, Tipperary

Visit from representatives of U17B County Final winning team

22nd Oct 2021

On Thursday, 21st October 2021, we were delighted to welcome three of our past pupils who are members of the victorious U17B hurling team - Brian Furlong, Diarmuid Carr and Aidan Heney, along with their team mate and captain Diarmuid Kinane, to Scoil Mhuire.  They were accompanied by their coach, Mr Derek Breen, and Chairperson of the Juvenile Committee, Mr Michéal Gleeson.

Scoil Mhuire is proud to have 11 past pupils on the panel - Eoin Horgan, Aaron Horgan, Eamon Madigan, Jerry Buckley, Brian Furlong, Diarmuid Carr, Tom O' Driscoll, Aidan Heney, Shane Buckley, Jack Harris and Corey McGrath.

The school was filled with the colours of the club as pupils and staff wore the black and amber on the day.  We were blessed with a dry day so all the pupils could gather safely outside on the basketball court to greet our guests.

Príomh Oide na Scoile, Mrs Tierney, welcomed the visitors and spoke of the honour it was to represent your club and return to your school with both a West cup and County cup. She spoke of the close link between the school, the club and the community and the importance of celebrating these important events in parish history.

Both Michéal and Derek spoke about the commitment and effort the team had put in since April in order to achieve their success, participating in 53 training sessions in total.  They emphasised to the pupils the need for commitment and practise, and keeping your head held high through the defeats in order to achieve the win!

The pupils then had the opportunity to ask questions of the players and have photos taken with the guests of honour and the two cups.

It was a lovely event for our school community and we wish best of luck to these players, and their team and management, as they take on the football championship in the weeks ahead.
